These wire briolette earrings will look great in any color. You might want to practice the loops shown in the steps below before making the final piece, especially if it’s one of your first projects.

A mandrel is needed to make the loops for this design. There is no need to purchase one, because there are many objects that make great mandrels. I sometimes use pens or pencils, knitting needles and crocheting needles for my designs. Try to find something with a diameter of approx. 8mm.

Make both earrings step-by-step together to ensure that they are evenly made.

What you need:

  • 2 crystal briolette beads with top drilled holes, side-to-side (I’ve used 12mm x 10mm briolettes)
  • 18 gauge (1.0mm) silver wire
  • 22gauge (0.6mm) silver wire for wrapping the briolette beads
  • 2 earring wires (hooks)
  • a mandrel with a diameter of 8mm
  • round nose pliers
  • chain or flat nose pliers
  • wire or side cutters
  • safety glasses (optional)

Step 1:
Cut off a piece of 18 gauge wire, 4 ¼ inch (14mm) long. Run your fingers along the wire to straighten it a bit. Grip the end of the wire with your round nose pliers. Make a loop by moving your pliers away from you. Do not close the loop completely, leave a small gap. Release your pliers.

Step 2:
Grip the loop with your flat nose pliers and use your free hand to bend the tail of the wire around the loop to form a spiral. Leave a gap between the rings of the spiral while bending the wire. Your spiral should have more or less two circles. It doesn’t matter if the spirals aren’t perfectly round.

Step 3:
Make another spiral on the other end of the wire in the opposite direction.

Step 4:
For the next step you will need to place your mandrel (or object) in the position as shown in the photo below. The dotted line indicates the way you should bend the wire.

Hold the mandrel in position with one hand, and bend the tail of the wire around the mandrel with your other hand. Do the same for the other end of the wire.

Step 5:
Now it is time to make the briolette wrap. Use the 22 gauge wire and follow the detailed explanation on the page briolette wrap. You can wrap the wire a bit further down the briolette for this design. It will look like the one in the photo below.

Step 6:
Take the wrapped briolette and slide it onto the spiral. Slide the earring hook onto the spiral on the other side to finish off your wire briolette earrings. Voila!

Well done, your wire briolette earrings are now ready to wear.
