How to make a shell charm bracelet:
This shell charm bracelet is made with a collection of natural beads and shell disc beads. The latter gives the bracelet an earthy feel. You will need bracelet chain with links of at least 5mm. I’ve used oval bracelet chain with links of 8mm. If you are going to make only one bracelet, then it is useful to buy bracelet chain with a ready fitted clasp. When making multiple bracelets, it is more economical to buy loose chain and add the toggle clasp yourself. Click on the
bracelet size guide
to find the right bracelet size for you.
What you need:
- bracelet chain (links at least 5-8mm)
- toggle clasp (if you didn’t buy bracelet chain with a ready fitted clasp)
- collection of bone beads or natural beads
- 5 to 8 shell disc beads (depending on your bracelet size)
- jump rings (5mm or 6mm)
- round nose pliers
- chain or flat nose pliers
- wire or side cutters
- safety glasses
Follow this step if you have to attach the toggle clasp yourself. Otherwise proceed to step 2. Measure the size of your wrist, and cut the chain more or less the size of your wrist. You are going to add a toggle clasp that will add 1 inch to the bracelet. Your wrist size + 1 inch = your bracelet size.
Open a jump ring using your round and chain nose pliers. The correct way to open a jump ring is described on the page
how to open a jump ring.
Slide the bar of the clasp, as well as the end of the bracelet chain onto the open jump ring. Close it the same way as you’ve opened it. Repeat the same process for attaching the toggle to the other side of the chain.
Your bracelet will now look like the one in the photo below.
Slide your natural or bone beads (or both) onto the headpins in the order you desire.
Follow the steps for making a loop on a headpin as described on the page
Make a loop for each headpin.
Open a jump ring
and slide one shell disc bead onto the jump ring. Attach it to the second link of the toggle bar. Close the jump ring using your round and chain nose pliers.
Open the loop of the first headpin that you would like to attach to the chain with your round nose pliers.
Attach it to the second loop next to the shell bead. Close the headpin loop with your round nose pliers. Make sure it is completely closed.
Repeat this pattern for the rest of the bracelet.
Congratulations, your shell charm bracelet is now ready to wear!
