Chain drop earrings project:

These beautiful chain drop earrings are perfect for an evening out. You can make them in a relative short period of time. It’s easy to change the length of these chain drop earrings by using shorter or longer pieces of chain. If you need more info on which chain to choose, then click here: jewelry making chain

What you need:

  • I’ve used 2 small and 2 medium rose crystal beads, and 2 Bali flower spacer beads. You may use any beads of your choice.
  • 2 headpins
  • chain with at least 20 links
  • 2 fish hook earring wires
  • 2 jump rings (2mm or 3mm)
  • round nose pliers
  • wire or side cutters
  • safety glasses (optional)

Make both earrings step-by-step together to ensure that they are the same length.

Step 1:

Slide the beads onto your headpin in the following order: large rose crystal bead, bali spacer bead, medium crystal bead. Follow the steps for making a loop on a headpin as described on the page: Headpin loop

Step 2:

Cut off 10 links of chain.

Step 3:

Open the loop of the headpin only a little bit to make a small space where you can insert the chain. Do not open the loop too big otherwise the round shape will be distorted. Close the loop completely.

Step 4:

Open your jump ring by gripping it on both ends of the opening with your chain and round nose pliers. Move your pliers in opposite directions, forward and backwards, not left and right to open the jump ring. In other words don’t pull it open. Release one of the pliers, and use your free hand to slip the last link of the chain onto the jump ring.

Step 5:

Now take the earring wire and slip it onto the jump ring as well.

Step 6:

Close the jump ring the same way as you opened it in a rocking motion back and forth. Make sure the jump ring is completely closed.
